Can you tell if a friend has a substance abuse problem?

HERE ARE SOME SIGNS TO LOOK FOR:

Have their grades been slipping?

Is there a change in how often they attend class?

Is there a noticeable change in behavior or attitude?

Are they hanging around with a different crowd?

Has their physical appearance changed in any way?

Have they talked about having problems at home?

Have they talked about being depressed or even about suicide?

note: Our Adolescent Substance Abuse Counselor does not need parental consent to see a student because it’s covered under the Maryland Minor’s Capacity to Consent Law, although parental involvement is encouraged.
